Reminder: feel everything that shows up for you in this time. Don’t repress, express. Observe your emotions, honour them, nurture you. Go for a meditative walk. Get some sun while practising social distancing. Sending enormous amounts of love ❤️❤️❤️ Reminder: feel everything that shows up for you in this time. Don’t repress, express. When I share my art with you, I’m sharing my deeply personal process of healing from my experiences. And sometimes it’s just fun photos with my best friends. Currently feeling like this space is no longer safe for me to share. It’s not personal to anyone at all. Need to put my mental health first. This isn’t running, this is regenerating personal strength to stay public, open and vulnerable with you in the future. I’ll be back soon. ❤️ please use the text tab if you want to still be in the loop on any print announcements. In case you are new here, I wanted to give you some insight into my art. I first started the subtitle series in 2015. I wanted to challenge the Instagram platform by way of creating a narrative that appeared as if it came from film but was solely photographs. I wanted each piece to stand alone, and be open to interpretation based on the viewers experience and projections. When you bring the body of work together, a larger narrative is told, my narrative. I write the dialogue over a period of months, usually after I have internalized intense conversations I have had with significant connections. I’ll replay those conversations in my mind, and it’s the unspoken dialogue that becomes part of my art. My creativity peaks when I am hurting; when my freedoms have been restricted, when I feel unsafe, misunderstood or unheard. I make sense of feeling thrown off centre by reframing chaos as beauty. We generally only perceive beauty on greener pastures, but through my creative lens, I try to understand the beauty in all the spaces I fill. To me, beautiful moments stand out the most during times of darkness. In some way, those moments have become my life-line. You’re getting a glimpse into my inner life with these, my experiences, my traumas, my heart breaks. Many of these moments are recreations of a time where I wish I had responded differently. Oftentimes my thoughts feel to taboo to have, particularly as an Arab woman. The female characters are especially strong because when I reinvent those moments, I suspect that the things I wish that I said would not have been easily tolerated, because of my culture. I’m changing that expectation and keeping my characters invincible in their vulnerability. To view my series in the order I intended, head to the link in my bio. ❤️ In case you are new here, I wanted to give you some insight into my art. I first started the subtitle series in 2015.
